Camping Spot | Camping Riu Gelat | Espot is a town and municipality in the region of Pallars Sobirà. It is one of the few terms in the region that throughout the 20th century has not undergone any kind of aggregation from other municipalities.
It is located in the north-west of the region, to the east of the Aigüestortes and Estany de Sant Maurici National Park, of which it is one of the entrances. An important part of this park is within the municipal area of Espot, especially one of its most emblematic places: the Encantats and the Estany de Sant Maurici.
Medieval bridge
It is part of the Vall d’Àneu, but the term is located in the Riu Escrita valley, subsidiary of the Vall d’Àneu in its southern sector. The altitude of the mountains that delimit the valley, as well as its climatic characteristics, have allowed the establishment of a ski resort in the valley, Super Espot, which has made the valley and Espot itself one of the most touristic places in the region.
The town of Espot has, although close to each other, three distinct nuclei: the old town, known as the Obago, the eastern area, where the current Town House and the parish church of Santa Llogaia, the Casa del Parc and the Casa de Colònies d’Espot and the recently built Solau, further north.
In addition to the center of Espot, the term has another village, Estaís, the ski resort, with two small population centers, Super Espot and Berrader, remains of the village of Llort, around the Castle of Llort, remains the church of Santa Maria d’Espot, the hermitage of Sant Maurici, the chapel of Sant Jaume, the Torrassa tower, the Espot hydroelectric power station and numerous borders, apart from the surroundings of Estaís , which are discussed in the article dedicated to this town.Aigüestortes National Park and Estany de Sant Maurici.
